oncoHUB
A cross-platform professional oncology application connecting Ukrainian clinicians with medical education, events, video content, timely updates, and specialized tools for clinical work.
Overview
oncoHUB is a professional Ukrainian oncology community working to advance cancer care and research through evidence-based education, science, collaboration, and access to modern knowledge. Its initiatives connect physicians, researchers, scientists, and professional leaders through conferences, training programmes, educational materials, and specialist dialogue.
DigitalTouch transformed that expanding ecosystem into a dedicated mobile platform. The oncoHUB application gives oncology professionals a direct way to follow relevant materials, discover events, register for conferences, watch broadcasts and video, receive timely updates, and use practical tools created for their field.
More than a mobile version of a website
The application was not designed as a simple wrapper around oncohub.org. It is a standalone product with its own user experience, cross-platform mobile client, backend services, integrations, notification flows, and professional functionality.
The central challenge was to make several very different types of interaction feel like one coherent application:
- oncology news and professional educational materials;
- a calendar of conferences, courses, and community events;
- registration flows for professional events;
- live broadcasts and recorded video content;
- push notifications for important updates;
- specialized digital tools for oncologists;
- synchronized content and data from the existing oncohub.org ecosystem.
Each area has different technical and interface requirements. Reading a medical update, registering for a conference, watching a stream, and completing a specialist calculation are distinct user journeys. The product needed to support all of them without becoming fragmented or difficult to navigate.
Professional events in one mobile experience
Events are an important part of the oncoHUB community. The application brings event discovery and registration closer to the clinicians who participate in conferences, training programmes, and educational activities.
Users can follow the event calendar, access relevant information, and move through conference-registration flows from a mobile device. Push notifications create a direct communication channel for new materials, programme updates, and time-sensitive activity without depending exclusively on a website or social media feed.
Video and broadcast access extends the platform beyond announcements. It allows professional content to remain available within the same product environment, connecting communication, education, and events instead of distributing them across unrelated services.
Specialized medical calculators
One of the most technically distinctive parts of the project is its extensive collection of oncology-specific medical calculators. These are not generic form screens. Each calculator represents specialized domain logic that must be translated into a clear and dependable digital workflow.
Implementing a medical calculator requires attention to several layers at once:
- the exact set of clinical input parameters;
- relationships between values and calculation rules;
- input constraints and validation;
- units, ranges, and boundary conditions;
- conditional steps and exceptional cases;
- understandable presentation of the calculated result;
- a mobile interface efficient enough for professional use.
The number and specificity of these calculators made the project substantially more complex than a conventional content application. DigitalTouch had to turn dense professional logic into interfaces that remain structured, readable, and convenient on a phone.
The application supports professional workflows and access to specialist tools; it does not replace clinical judgement or the medical standards governing their use.
UX/UI for a specialist audience
DigitalTouch designed the UX/UI around the needs of medical professionals. The interface has to provide quick access to information while accommodating content-heavy pages, event details, video, notifications, forms, and calculation tools.
In a professional healthcare product, clarity is not simply a visual preference. Navigation, labels, input states, validation feedback, and result hierarchy all influence whether a complex feature can be used efficiently. The design therefore prioritizes legibility, predictable interaction, and consistency across very different parts of the application.
Flutter application and custom backend
The mobile client is built with Flutter, providing a shared product foundation for iOS and Android. A unified codebase helps maintain consistent behaviour and design across platforms while supporting the continued development of new content and professional tools.
The application is powered by a custom Laravel backend with MySQL and Redis. The backend supports application-specific data, content and event flows, integrations, and performance-sensitive operations. Redis complements persistent MySQL storage where fast access and efficient processing are important.
Integration with oncohub.org connects the mobile experience with the organisation’s existing digital platform. At the same time, the dedicated backend gives the application room to support mobile-specific capabilities such as push notifications, structured tool workflows, and continued product evolution.
End-to-end delivery by DigitalTouch
DigitalTouch was responsible for the complete technical delivery of the application:
- product UX and interface design;
- Flutter development for iOS and Android;
- Laravel backend engineering;
- MySQL and Redis data infrastructure;
- integration with oncohub.org;
- event, content, video, and notification functionality;
- implementation of oncology-specific calculators;
- App Store and Google Play publication;
- ongoing application maintenance and support.
This end-to-end scope made it possible to treat oncoHUB as one evolving product rather than a collection of disconnected deliverables. Mobile interaction, backend behaviour, website integration, and operational support were designed as parts of the same system.
A digital platform for the oncology community
oncoHUB demonstrates how a professional organization can extend its educational and community work into a focused mobile product. It combines content, events, video, direct communication, and specialist medical functionality in an application built specifically for oncology professionals.

oncoHUB needed to bring a broad professional ecosystem into one reliable mobile product. The application had to combine editorial content, an event calendar, conference registration, live and recorded video, push communication, and numerous oncology-specific medical calculators while remaining clear and practical for clinicians. It also needed its own scalable backend and dependable integration with the existing oncohub.org platform.
What DigitalTouch built
DigitalTouch designed and engineered the complete oncoHUB mobile platform for iOS and Android. The product includes news and professional materials, an event calendar, conference-registration flows, access to broadcasts and video, push notifications, and a growing set of specialized tools for oncologists. The delivery covered UX/UI, Flutter development, a custom Laravel backend, website integration, publication in both app stores, and continued technical support.
Technical approach
A shared Flutter codebase provides a consistent mobile experience across iOS and Android. The custom backend is built with Laravel, MySQL, and Redis, supporting application data, content delivery, event workflows, integrations, and performance-sensitive operations. The mobile product exchanges data with oncohub.org while retaining backend capabilities designed specifically for the application. Medical calculators required careful implementation of domain-specific formulas, inputs, validation rules, edge cases, and result presentation so that complex professional logic remains understandable on a mobile screen.
